Homeschooling

After my divorce, the kids and I faced many different decisions. Where to live? Where to work? Where to send the kids for school? Because of the changes we were facing these were all important decisions that the family had to decide.

Once we selected a new place to live, I went about looking for a new job. I was fortunate to find an employer that was very flexible with working hours. My job allows me to work days, afternoons, evenings and even weekends. And the best part is I am able to spend a good percentage of my day at home. I do need to report in to our main office once or twice a week for a short period of time. This allows me an appropriate amount of time to homeschool my children.

So, for this year I am homeschooling my three children. The tricky part is they are all different ages, and I need to pattern my curriculum accordingly. It’s difficult, but not impossible. Fortunately, I have a degree in education and spent a few years as a teacher in the past. This has made it easier to transition my kids from a school setting to a homeschool setting.

Going into homeschooling was a challenge, but it seems to be working out fine. I did a bunch of research and have been communicating with various homeschooling groups and organizations. They have provided me with a lot of great ideas and resources on how to get going. It’s been a challenge so far, but we seem to be working just fine. If you are interested in homeschooling, here are a couple of good sites for information.
